Block G: Honours 11: Creative Writing due Thurs. Dec. 7th

Choose one of the 5 pieces that we have written in class and take it home, polish it up, add to it, and create the best piece of writing you've done all year!

It will be marked on the 6 traits of writing: Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, Writing Conventions (grammar, spelling, punctuation etc)

Length: 400-800 words (I was asked to bump up the word count to 800, so don't go beyond that, even if you find it a challenge! Remember: "concise is nice."

English 12: Sonnets

The Sonnets you are writing must deal with passion and/or jealousy.  They are due the next class I see you!  Include poetic devices like similes, metaphors, personification, alliteration, etc.

Oh, and by the way, Jake S. is writing an amazing sonnet about Mustard and Ketchup - Mustard is extremly jealous of Ketchup because it is the condiment of choice for hotdogs.

Challenge: beat that!

English 10: Block A

Character Chart:  Choose a main character from either "the Lamp at Noon", "The Metaphor", or "Harrison Bergeron" and complete the character chart.  Make sure to determine 4 personality traits and find quotations from the stories to prove the traits.  (See me for this chart)

Use your chart for the following:

Paragraph Question: In a paragraph of 150-200 words, with direct reference to one the stories (listed above), discuss the main character's personality traits.

Criteria: this is a persuasive paragraph: you must prove that your character fits these traits. Use 3-4 quotations as your evidence and explain how the quotations prove your point.

For example, if you say that Charlotte's mother is a cold-hearted person and use the example where she tells Charlotte to stop crying, you then have to explain that this is unfeeling because she does not care that her daughter is upset, does not let her express her emotions, nor does she have any empathy for the situation.

DUE DATES:
